We look forward to this time of year for so many reasons: the company of good friends, blending old and new traditions, trying new recipes and decorating our Christmas trees.
Our favourite tree to decorate isn’t in any of our living rooms though; it’s in the lobby of The Sutton Place Hotel in downtown Vancouver. For the past eight years we have been invited to participate in their annual Home for the Holidays tree pageant.
Local home designers, stagers and retailers use trees as their canvas to create inspiring and unique Christmas trees that perfectly reflect their aesthetic and creativity. This year we took our inspiration from the less -is-more Scandinavian holiday feel, paired with a west coast vibe. Using starfish, bells, and a muted palette we wanted to create a warm feeling of bringing the outdoors inside.
Not only is this a fun design challenge that really gets us into the holiday mood every year, but it also helps raise money for a very special cause. As you walk through the lobby and view all the different trees this year, please remember to vote for your favourite. The cost is $5 and all proceeds go towards PALS, a Vancouver-based school for autistic children. Your vote also gains you entry for a chance to win some amazing prizes and travel experiences donated by local companies.
Home for the Holidays is on now and runs until January 2, 2015. Please let us know what you think of our tree and thank you as always for supporting the causes that are near and dear to us.
