Six Tips For Successful Spring Cleaning

With Spring officially here, it’s the perfect time to get your home organized and beautiful after a long winter. Here are our favourite motivating tips to help you get moving on some successful Spring cleaning.

1. Don’t Forget Curb Appeal
You can spend an entire weekend getting the inside of your home gorgeous, but don’t forget the outside. The entrance to your home should be warm and welcoming, not dusty and cluttered. Sweep the porch, shake out the welcome mat, dust off any corner cobwebs and get rid of any item that doesn’t belong there.

2. Deep Cleaning
Spring is the perfect time to tackle the heavy-duty deep cleaning. If you don’t have one handy, you can rent a steam cleaner to steam clean all your carpets and couches. If you have children or pets you might be surprised how much dirt is hiding deep in those fibres.

3. Pack away Winter
Now is the time to organize and store away all the winter gear you don’t want to be tripping over. Heavy coats, snow sports accessories and an army of boots take up a lot of precious closet space. Make sure you properly label and store your cold weather essentials so you can easily access them all come next winter.

4. Look Up!
Those often ignored ceiling and light fixtures collect dust and dirt while you aren’t looking. The last thing you want is to have those potential allergens raining down on you and guests. Remove that buildup of dust and dirt from ceiling fans and air-conditioner vents with a cloth and a vacuum with a soft nozzle attachment.

5. Face the Fridge and Pantry
Even the most organized kitchen has some secrets that need to be cleared out. Pick an afternoon and grab some kitchen gloves and disinfectant. Empty, wipe down and organize your fridge and freezer; don’t forget to take all the magnets off and wipe down the front of the fridge (and the back if you dare.) Any half-eaten and near expiring items in the pantry can go. Excess of certain foods, or items that you know your family won’t likely eat can be given to the food bank.

6. Wardrobe Re-vamp
Organizing and picking through a wardrobe can be stressful. If you want to bring that Spring clean feeling into your closet, it’s possible but you do have to be ruthless. Ask yourself: Have I worn this in the past year? Do I love this? If you’re able to pare down your closet, you can donate that old clothing to your favourite charity, and free up precious closet space for new items.

Once you’ve completed these Spring cleaning tasks, your home will feel refreshed and ready for the longer and brighter days of Spring.
