Now that we are all staying close to home, it’s time to get imaginative in your space. Consider this the perfect time for a fun design challenge by creating a space, nook or room that you love, using only items you have in your home.
Let’s do it together!
Start by envisioning the space you want to create
What would be a lovely addition to your home? An oasis where you can escape the noise, stress and uncertainty of 2020, even if just for a few minutes.
Decide where in your home you want that space
What is the least used area of your home? Why isn’t it used? Have you considered repurposing the space into something else? Imagine what it could be!
You could refresh your bedding and bedroom artwork, create a dedicated place to exercise, a warm corner to curl up and read, a calming spot to meditate or practice yoga, a streamlined office space to work from home, or think about transforming an unused room into something more magical, say a spare bedroom into a wow-worthy dressing room.
Make a wish list of everything that dream space would contain and shop your house for as much as you can
Before you get overwhelmed and let the scope of a project stop you before you get started, we encourage you to step away from Pinterest and your online carts, and go shop your home. There is a good chance that all the components that one might need to create such a space might be right under your fingertips. As a whole, we all have a lot more stuff than we need. Think about what can be repurposed or repaired. You have time and many online tutorials at your fingertips. You can do this! (And if your budget allows, pop onto an online shopping site like Wayfarer or Amazon for pieces you don’t have.)
Start by emptying the space you want to transform, then build up from the largest pieces or components:
a rug, a chair, a desk, a spin bike or floor pillows
add pieces to hold a cup of tea, a book, music or stereo equipment
add artwork
add favourite pens, décor pieces, pillows, throws, earphones
